International Conference on Artisanal and Small-scale Mining & Quarrying
The IGF is proud to be a supporting partner of The International Conference on Artisanal and Small-scale Mining & Quarrying (ASM18), taking place September 11-13, in Livingstone, Zambia. The IGF is hosting the workshop on women in artisanal and small-scale mining, an integrated feature of the conference’s parallel sessions.
Mine Closure Workshop on Legal Frameworks
The IGF participated in a workshop in Vientiane, Lao PDR, from May 8 to 10, 2018, to assist with capacity building in mine closure legal frameworks of responsible government agencies from ASEAN member states to better understand how to achieve and manage sustainable mine closure.
15th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Minerals
IGF attended ASEAN’s 15th Senior Officials Meeting on Minerals (ASOMM) May 2 to 4, 2018, in the Philippines, meeting with and listening to feedback from the ASEAN Member States on their priorities and to understand specific alignment on an ASEAN-IGF Mineral Cooperation Action Plan.
Regional Training for Francophone Africa on IGF Guidance for Managing ASM
More than 50 government representatives from 17 African countries attended a workshop in Yaoundé, Cameroon from February 26 to March 1 on how to implement the IGF’s guidance on managing artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM).
2017 Annual General Meeting
IGF ‘s 2017 Annual General Meeting, focused on managing artisanal and small scale-mining (ASM), brought together government officials from IGF’s over 60 member nations with representatives from industry, civil society and academia in Geneva from October 16-20. The IGF, PDAC, WEF and World Bank co-hosted a Sustainability Forum on the sidelines of the 2018 PDAC Convention on Saturday, March 3, 2018, in Toronto, Canada. This Sustainability Forum discussed the important role minerals and metals will play in the mining sector to help shift to a low carbon economy. At the Forum, 130 participants discussed mineral and metal demand, implications for resource-rich countries, clean technology, innovation, carbon footprints and responsible supply chains in interactive roundtables.
IGF participated in Investing in African Mining Indaba, held February 5-8, 2018, in Cape Town, South Africa, hosting two sessions throughout the event. The first session was a special side event focusing on the hidden cost of tax incentives. The second session was IGF’s Sustainability Roundtables on Local Content Policy, featuring parallel interactive roundtables focusing defining local content, economic diversification, policy options and more.
PDAC Sustainability Forum 2017
IGF participated in the annual meeting of the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC). It was held in Toronto on March 5-8, 2017, and IGF’s side event focused on the critical role that innovation will play in the mining sector to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
IGF participated in Investing in African Mining Indaba, held February 6-9, 2017, in Cape Town, South Africa. The IGF Sustainability Roundtables focused on managing ASM zones; ASM formalization; mine closure; extracting value from waste; mineral policy and legal reforms; the social license to operate; local content; and more.
