The IGF Secretariat is pleased to announce that a detailed meeting summary is now available on our website along with conference documents, photos and videos from our 12th Annual General Meeting.
We hope the site will serve as a valuable resource both for participants and for those who were unable to attend.
Some 270 delegates from government, industry, civil society and academia attended the meeting at UNCTAD’s Palais des Nations in Geneva which convened October 24-28, 2016.
The theme of the meeting was “The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Mining.”
Our official Communiqué can be viewed here on our dedicated event page. Delegates engaged in 20 formal sessions where panelists discussed issues including:
- gender in mining;
- climate change adaptation and mitigation;
- voluntary principles on security and human rights;
- Mining Policy Framework Assessments;
- the shared value paradigm;
- water and ecosystem management;
- managing ASM zones;
- mine tailings management;
- and open data.
A number of presentations were also offered over the lunch break. Monday’s intergovernmental workshops were for government representatives only.
We hope you will visit our 2016 AGM event page to learn about these important topics. More details are below.
Many of the PowerPoint presentations and reports discussed at the conference are already posted on the conference documents page.
We will continue to upload these documents as they become available.
We hope this page will be a useful reference for delegates and those who were unable to attend.
IISD’s Reporting Services produced comprehensive, impartial and professional daily meeting reports which summarized the proceedings.
They can be viewed here on the IGF website as PDFs and as individual webpages.
A 17-page summary document is now available as a PDF here.
