Mining is an important—and growing—pillar of Senegal’s economy, and is expected to play a significant role in the country’s continued social and economic development. The IGF is pleased to present its assessment of Senegal's mining policies.
Governments struggling to manage the complex and sometimes chaotic artisanal and small scale-mining sector have a new toolkit: guidance developed by the IGF. The guidance includes direction on how to ensure effective, inclusive strategy development and implementation, as well as effective governance of the process overall.
Mining is often left out of conversations about sustainable development, but a dedicated group of people is working to ensure that the impacts of mining are reduced and that the benefits are shared. The IGF offers member governments the opportunity to have their policies, laws and regulations assessed by experts.
