The IGF has signed a three-year cooperation agreement with the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Mining Task Force. Our first project will be to assist with the implementation of the Task Force’s mine closure checklist. IGF member Papua New Guinea has volunteered to test the checklist in a pilot program.
Mining is often left out of conversations about sustainable development, but a dedicated group of people is working to ensure that the impacts of mining are reduced and that the benefits are shared. The IGF offers member governments the opportunity to have their policies, laws and regulations assessed by experts.
The Federal Republic of Somalia expressed its commitment to good governance of the mining sector by joining the IGF. The mining industry is in its infancy in Somalia. The government's goal is to contribute to poverty eradication and economic growth by responsibly developing the nation’s mineral and mining sector.
This space will soon link to summaries of recent reports by IGF, our partners and other reputable organizations.
