Innovation for Sustainability in the Mining Sector
Saturday March 4th, 2017 (1200-1700)
at the 2017 PDAC Convention in Toronto, Canada
Meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030 will require unprecedented cooperation and collaboration among governments, the private sector, communities, and non-governmental organizations. The mining sector has the opportunity and potential to positively contribute to all 17 SDGs. Many of the minerals produced by mining are also essential building blocks to technologies, infrastructure, energy and agriculture.
This Sustainability Forum will discuss the important role that innovation will play in the mining sector to help achieve the SDGs. Innovation can take many forms including technology, finance, business models, and partnerships throughout all stages of mine development.
The main event will commence at 1:00pm with a short presentation and panel discussion introducing the topic. Delegates will then separate into roundtable discussions focused on exploring an innovation theme in depth. The event will then close with another panel discussion.
Additional details including a session agenda will be provided over the coming weeks.
