Gender in Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining Training Workshop for Nigeria

The IGF held a capacity-building workshop for Nigerian government officials on artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) and gender. The workshop was requested by Nigeria’s Ministry of Solid Mineral Development (MSMD).

Ahead of the event, the IGF conducted a needs assessment survey with officials. The results helped the facilitators create an engaging program that meets the country’s unique requirements and incorporate case studies to provide tangible contexts for exploring the key issues.

Thirty-nine participants attended the training session, primarily officials from the MSMD within the ASM Directorate and representatives from the federal and state governments. Members from associations advocating for women in mining also participated.
