The IGF held a capacity-building workshop for government officials in Nigeria focused on artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) and gender equality. The workshop came in response to a request from Nigeria’s Ministry of Solid Mineral Development (MSMD). The report outlines how the IGF first conducted a needs assessment survey with officials. The results helped the facilitators create an engaging program to meet the country’s unique requirements and incorporate case studies to provide tangible contexts for exploring the key issues.
The training session was attended by 39 participants, primarily composed of officials from the MSMD within the ASM Directorate, along with representatives from the federal and state governments. Additionally, members from associations advocating for women in mining also participated.
