IGF Launches Fundamentals of Gender Equality Challenge

July 16, 2024
  • Do you want to take action to support gender equality in the mining sector?
  • Is your country seeking to do more to empower women in mining and affected communities?

The IGF is challenging member countries to encourage key teams, departments, and ministries to earn certificates in The Fundamentals of Gender Equality — a FREE, online express course that takes just 2-3 hours to complete and is available in English, French, Spanish, and Russian.

IGF members earning 25+ certificates after formally accepting the challenge will have their achievements showcased by the Secretariat to their peers and broader global audience via an IGF publication or event organized by the Secretariat.

This course was developed by the IGF, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme and Environmental Governance Programme.

Are you up to the challenge?

Send a message to Secretariat@IGFMining.org with the subject: IGF Fundamentals of Gender Equality Challenge and please indicate which which teams, departments, and ministries are taking the challenge.

The IGF supports its 85 member countries in advancing their sustainable development goals through effective laws, policies, and regulations for the mining sector. We help governments take action to develop inclusive and gender-equitable practices, optimize financial benefits, support livelihoods, and safeguard the environment. Our work covers the full mining life cycle, from exploration to mine closure, and projects of all sizes, from artisanal mining to large-scale operations. Guided by our members’ needs, we provide in-country assessments, capacity building, technical training, publications, and events to advance best practices, peer learning, and engagement with industry and civil society. The International Institute for Sustainable Development has hosted the IGF Secretariat since October 2015. Core funding is provided by the governments of Canada and the Netherlands.
