The Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF) developed and delivered a training program on Advancing Women’s Participation in Mining Consultations at the request of Argentina’s National Mining Secretariat (NMS).

The initiative was aimed at government officials working on mining and environmental governance at both the national and provincial levels of government.

The training consisted of two 2-hour sessions delivered virtually.

Sessions included an introduction to the main concepts of mining consultation processes and the role of women. Guest speakers from Transparency International, Ulula, and Prodialogo presented tools and methodologies to increase women’s participation in mining consultation processes, with special emphasis on Latin American examples.

The sessions averaged 29 participants each, 88% of whom were women and 12% men. Participants came primarily from the mining authorities, with a few participants coming from institutions in charge of environmental oversight. Attendees included representatives from 13 of Argentina’s provinces and 10 representatives from the NMS.
