The IGF Secretariat provides tailored technical assistance to developing country members to further good governance in mining.

Our team supports governments to address issues in the sector by crafting and implementing effective legal and policy frameworks to manage persistent challenges such as equitable sharing of mining’s benefits and pursuing gender equality to emerging issues related to new technologies and climate change.

What Kind of Technical Assistance Can a Member Request?

The IGF Secretariat provides its members with targeted support by reviewing and advising on legal and policy frameworks, developing guidance, and specialized in-country support as needed.

How Does a Member Request Technical Assistance?

Senior staff in mining or related ministries should submit a request for technical assistance to the IGF Secretariat. We will then engage with the requesting member to fully understand their needs and priorities and co-develop a workplan before commencing activities. We invite members in developing countries to email Secretariat@IGFMining.org to request technical assistance.

What is the Difference Between Technical Assistance and Capacity Building?

Technical assistance provides short to medium term expertise to present a solution to a defined challenge. Our team of experts provide member countries with technical assistance to address specific gaps or challenges within their governmental institutions to review, design, or develop legal and policy frameworks and tools for the mining sector.

Capacity building fosters skills development in people in the medium to long term with government departments and other stakeholders which acknowledges larger political, social, and economic contexts. Capacity building helps our members develop their competencies and abilities to implement and maintain good practices in mining governance.
